Grade 1: Eric Carle
Each December, First Graders study the author-illustrator Eric Carle. Integrating literature and art, the students learn about his many books and illustrating techniques. This year, students made paper in the style of Eric Carle during an art class with Ms Hynes. In Ms. Addesa’s room, you can see our Very Lonely Firefly mural, complete with lights. At the end of the unit, each reading group enjoyed performing an Eric Carle story for the grade, including A House for Hermit Crab, The Mixed-Up Chameleon, The Very Busy Spider, and Little Cloud. They also read, made, and ate “Pancakes, Pancakes,” with the help of parent volunteers.
