Grade 2 Cinco de Mayo '08

The Second Grade culminated its study of Mexico with a fiesta celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Students experienced different aspects of Mexican traditions and culture in each of the three anchor rooms. In Ms. Gulezian's room, they made salsa, guacamole and quesadillas...as good as those they tasted at Cafe Azteca the week before!  Mexican music and dancing helped burn off the calories consumed. The party continued in Mrs. Santella's room with crafts.  Students made beautiful paper flowers, colorful worry dolls and chili pepper ristros. Students in Mrs. Elkin's room got a chance to swing at a donkey pinata, hoping to be the one to burst it open and spill the candy. Lastly, each student helped create a simulated "eruption" of one of the paper mache volcanoes made earlier in the term. It was a fun way to bring the Mexico unit to a close.
