Pre-K: Creative Spirit
How does one capture the creative spirit of a pre-kindergartener? The Pre-Kindergarten has been studying birds and other local animals in winter. They have made feeders from recycled materials, read stories about winter animals, made animal masks in art class, and created a wide variety of colorful birds from paper bags and paint.
Inspired by several books, the children dictated their own winter tale to their teachers. Incorporating the teachings of specialists in art, music, language enrichment and physical education, the children created a play and acted it out for all Lower School children to enjoy at a weekly assembly. Their birds provided a beautiful visual backdrop for the play, and the integration of art forms was evident as they acted, sang, and danced.
