Grade 3 Salmon Hatchery Trip '06Each fall, in preparation for receiving salmon eggs to raise, Mr. Santella leads the Third Grade on a field trip to the Nashua National Fish Hatchery in New Hampshire, where they can get a truly hands-on experience, learning about the life-cycle of the Atlantic Salmon. The Third Grade's study of Atlantic Salmon is part of a larger unit on watersheds. Once the eggs arrive from the hatchery in January, the Third Graders will care for the eggs, watch them hatch, raise the salmon fry, record their observations, and ultimately release the young salmon into the Souhegan River (Milford, New Hampshire) in the spring. Between January and June, the development of the eggs and young salmon in Mr. Santella's classroom can be observed in real time on Pike's Salmon Cam.
