Clubs at Pike offer an opportunity to take a risk and try something new, to participate in a fun activity with friends, to get to know new friends, and, often, to serve our community in some way.

All Upper School students are eligible to sign up for clubs, although some clubs may be limited to a particular grade. Clubs are offered when there is a faculty member who has the time and ability to advise students on a regular basis. Clubs usually meet in the room of the faculty advisor.

Upper School Clubs

Affinity Group

Provides students of color with a safe, supportive, common space where they can talk about their experience as a student of color.

Readers Circle

For anyone who enjoys having fun and talking about all kinds of books. We alternate between sharing books we're reading and reading one book that we choose together.

Boys & Girls Club

An opportunity to work and play with students who attend the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club.

Community Service

Activities include bake sales, Fall Clean-Up, Book Fair help, fundraising.

Chess Club

Learn how to play chess or improve your skills. We may attend some local tournaments.

Take on the role of an ambassador to the United Nations. We will prepare for a conference with other schools at Northeastern University.

Multicultural Club

An opportunity for all Upper School students to talk about and explore what it means to live in a diverse community and world.

Orchestra

Students who play an orchestral instrument are invited to try out for Orchestra. Two performances: 8th grade play and assembly in the 2nd term.

Math Club

Open to any Pike student who has an interest in mathematics. We work in groups and individually to solve familiar problems and explore new types of math. Depending on interest, we can also work toward preparation for participation in various math contests at both the regional and national level.

Open Improvisation

Learn how to improvise. We play a new improv game each week. Participants are encouraged to introduce a new or favorite game and even lead the game. We also look for opportunities to share the improvs with the community at assemblies.

Literary Magazine: VERBATIM

Write for and produce the Upper School literary magazine.

Speech Team

An interscholastic activity that teaches skills used in acting, public speaking, interviewing and other performance opportunities. Students may choose to compete in one of several categories of speech. Interpretation events include Play Reading, Prose, Poetry, Duo Interpretation, and Children’s Literature. Public Address events include Declamation, Original Oratory, and Impromptu Speaking. Students work with their coach on selection of category and material and with techniques involved in the delivery of speech.

There are 4-5 major tournaments from October to May. Pike usually hosts one of these. All contests take place on Sundays and run the full day. Pike is a member of the Massachusetts Forensic League and the National Junior Forensic League.

Student Council

Support local charities, coordinate Upper School social events, and help as needed with special/other school events.

Tech Corps

If you like computers and have you ever wondered how they work, or if your friends come to you when they can’t get their computer to work. then you’re perfect for the Tech Corps. In the Tech Corps, you learn trouble-shooting skills that you can use to help teachers and your fellow students (and maybe even your family).
