Welcome to The Pike School’s "Reading Ideas for Parents."
I have created these Web pages to share with you short, informative articles about various aspects of reading and young children at a time when your child is experiencing the adventure of learning to read, an exciting and complex process.
I will provide links for more parent information and, when appropriate, additional links to sites where your child can practice a particular skill in an engaging, online format. I have carefully screened all the sites. The parent links include lists of recommended children’s books, valuable information about how to help your child at home, and pertinent government publications, for example. I chose sites for the children that are the least commercial, easiest to navigate, most effective, and fun.
There is an abundance of information I wish to share with you about reading and young children, and I will be continuously adding articles, seeking new sites, and clearing away old ones. The Internet is an ever-changing repository of information, and I am looking forward to guiding you toward the best of it. I am excited about this project and hope you find this site enjoyable and will visit often.
Sincerely,
