Secondary School Placement
Pike graduates excel in the academic programs of competitive secondary schools, markedly so in their first year. Acclimation is almost immediate. Pike graduates are used to close relationships with their teachers, active participation in class discussions, critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and the hard work and time management skills necessary for success. Pike graduates are also well suited to independent learning, group activities, and seeking help from teachers when they need it.
Most Pike graduates are accepted to independent day and/or boarding schools. However, some graduates choose to attend their local high school. From April of Pike students’ Seventh Grade year through April of their final year when acceptances have been determined, the secondary advisors support students and families as they navigate the application process. In the spring of our students' Seventh Grade year, the Secondary School Advising Team welcomes parents to the process with an introductory presentation detailing options, presenting statistics on area schools, outlining the application timeline, and informing them of the numerous ways the members of the Advising Team support them throughout the process. In additional to the individual meetings Secondary School Advisors hold with both parent/guardians and students, Pike hosts an annual secondary school fair every September. Admission representatives from nearly eighty schools attend this fair each year. In October, families have the unique opportunity to attend a question and answer panel of admission directors at some of the nation’s leading secondary schools.
To enhance their work with the 70-plus families they advise each year, Pike’s two secondary school advisors host admission personnel at Pike and visit many independent secondary schools throughout the New England area.
Our secondary school advising process maximizes each child’s chances of matriculating at a secondary school where he or she will flourish.
Pike graduates have matriculated at more than 40 secondary schools. Our 69, June 2012 graduates are currently matriculating at the following:
