Artwork created by Pike Lower and Middle School students is featured on Solarize Andover's website as part of its "Doodle4Andover" project. Students were asked to create art based on the theme "My Friend, the Sun." Roughly 60 Pike students submitted artwork!

April is math awareness month and we are ready to celebrate! On April 10th from 5:15-6:30 p.m., we invite Lower and Middle School students and their parents to participate in fun learning activities! Twist your brain with brain teasers and ciphers, form human clocks, construct towers with spaghetti, sugar cubes or Legos, solve tangram puzzlers, get active in the gym, and much, much more! Each area is designed to engage children in grades PK - 5.

Pike's Teacher Training Program and former intern Katie Weinstein are currently featured on Lesley University's website. The program, a collaboration between Pike and Lesley that dates back to 1992, offers M.Ed. students the opportunity to intern at Pike as part of their degree requirements in elementary education.

Congratulations to seventh-grade student Margaret Lee, who earned a gold medal for her artwork as part of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards national competition. Margaret was one of just two seventh graders from Massachusetts who earned a gold medal and one of only four Mass. students in total recognized by the prestigious competition. Her work will now be sent to New York City to be exhibited as part of the national exhibit with an awards reception held this upcoming June.

Pike students traveled to Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass., to compete in the MathCounts State Tournament during spring vacation. Pike finished 10th overall in the competition with Michael Ren placing fifth individually.

Piercarlo Valdesolo '95 has two takeaways from Pike – a life lesson and a best friend. He is in his third year as Assistant Professor of psychology at Claremont McKenna College in California where he teaches courses on social and moral psychology and runs the Moral Emotions and Trust Lab ("affectionately known as the MEATLab")

This annual tradition coincides with the national read aloud day on Dr. Seuss' birthday. On March 3rd, Pike Lower School students celebrated the author's birthday with a special assembly and by reading his classic books during the day! See more photos!

Pike Lower and Middle School students were treated to a special assembly on the morning of February 19th as members of the Bright Pearl Dance Troupe in Andover came to campus to perform. The dance troupe, which includes Pike students Michelle Chen (Gr.1), Kristina Chao (Gr. 3) and Anna Yang (Gr. 4), performed a series of short dance routines for students in the theater.

Ten members of Pike's 7th grade class earned recognition for their artwork as part of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a prestigious regional and national competition for young artists and writers in grades 7-12. Gold key award-winners Anna Lang and Margaret Lee will now move on as part of the national competition. In total, 19 Pike students submitted 25 pieces of work to the regional competition.

Starting tonight, Pike students Jack Curtin, Elizabeth Packard, Kate Packard, Tate Blazonis and Danielle Page will star in Acting Out Theater Company's performance of Peter Pan. Jack will play John Darling, Elizabeth will play Michael Darling (Sat., 7 p.m./Sun., 3 p.m.) and Kate, Tate and Danielle will be Lost Boys.

For the sixth straight summer, Pike School will host Kaleidoscope, a popular three-week summer enrichment program that runs from July 7th-25th, followed by KITE (Kaleidoscope Institute for Thinking Excellence), a one-week full-day advanced program for high-ability learners (Grades K-8) from July 28th through August 1st.

Pike eight-grader Michaela Jones finished ninth in the 13-14 girls' division at the 2013 USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships, held in San Antonio, Texas, on December 14th. By finishing among the top-25 competitors, Michaela earned All-American status for the second-straight year after finishing fifth in the 11-12 division a year ago.

Pike Upper School students recently achieved the best results in school history on the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) Contest 8 exam. With 32 students competing in the national contest, it was also the largest group of Pike competitors ever. Michael Ren, Frank Cai and Jonathan Mei were Pike's overall winners with Ren recording a perfect score!

Pike students visited Boston University's 808 Gallery on December 11th to view the 2013 North American Print Biennial. Upper School Art Teacher Chris Vivier traveled with the students, all of whom are enrolled in his "printmaking" elective course.

Make a donation this holiday season through the Lazarus House Giving Tree! The Giving Tree is located in the theater lobby and allows you to donate gifts to local boys and girls. Donations accepted through December 13th!

Jarrett Krosoczka will be on campus on December 5th and 6th, sharing his creative process with Lower and Middle School students in workshop and assembly presentations. Parents are welcome to attend Jarrett's theater presentation "Writing With Pictures: The Graphic Novel" on Thursday, December 5th at 9:00 a.m. Seating for parents will be in the balcony.

Last week during recess, a few bold Pike fourth graders presented their very own opera entitled, Mother Nature. Bo Baird, head of Pike's middle school, was present to capture the poignant moment, which he believes epitomized the quality of the Pike experience, in both photos and words.
