Back to School 2021-2022

Welcome back students!

Re-Opening and COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 Vaccination: Our focus is on keeping our Pike community, the majority of whom are not yet eligible for vaccination, healthy. We believe that vaccination is the most critical preventative strategy for ending COVID-19. While we are not currently requiring the vaccine, we very strongly encourage all eligible adults and students, in consultation with their medical providers, to be vaccinated. In order to determine quarantine and testing requirements in case of exposure, we are requiring documentation for those who are vaccinated. Acceptable COVID-19 vaccination documentation can be a child’s immunization record or a copy/scan of the vaccination card. Parents will supply this documentation via Magnus. We encourage you to speak with your child’s pediatrician about specific questions regarding your child and the COVID-19 vaccine. Attached is a helpful resource from the CHOP Vaccine Education Center.

Face Coverings: At Pike, we will require all community members, regardless of vaccination status, to wear masks when indoors that cover their nose and mouth. Masks must have ear loop holes. No gaiters or masks with air valves are permitted. Masks are not required outdoors.

Surveillance Testing: To begin the school year, every student, faculty and staff member will be required to produce a negative COVID-19 test regardless of vaccination status. Pike will organize a drive-through pooled testing clinic on September 2 (more details to come) for all students, faculty and staff. If your student(s) is unable to attend the testing clinic, your student(s) will be required to obtain and produce a negative test PCR result dated between 9/2/21 - 9/7/21 prior to starting school on 9/8/21.

During the first week of school, all Pike students, faculty and staff (regardless of vaccination status) will be tested for COVID-19 at school via pooled testing. After that time, Pike plans to maintain a weekly COVID-19 surveillance testing program for unvaccinated individuals.

Symptomatic Testing: Rapid antigen testing for symptoms consistent with COVID will be administered by the School Nurse to students, faculty and staff that develop symptoms during the school day and have consented to testing. Further guidance will be outlined in our forthcoming protocols.

Mandatory Daily Health Screening: Pike students, faculty and staff will monitor themselves and self-report symptoms on a daily basis. We will, once again, use the application, MyMedBot. The screening will be a simplified version of the questionnaire used in 2020-21. If students are feeling unwell, it is critical that they remain at home. If your child is sick, please do not send them to school. It is important that should your child stay home due to illness that you contact the School Nurse, Sara Stevens.

Social Distancing: Pike students will maintain at least 3 feet of distance indoors whenever possible. This meets both the CDC and DESE’s guidance.

Hand Hygiene is Critical: We have incorporated into our schedule the opportunity for students, faculty and staff to clean their hands via washing or sanitizing upon arrival at school, before eating, before putting on and taking off face coverings, and before dismissal.

Responsibility of Families: Pike has always encouraged an active and willing partnership between the school and our families. We ask that families take the time to understand, learn and practice the new policies and practices, and to work with us to provide for the safety and wellness of all who return to the campus. Once again, we will ask all families to commit to a Community Agreement. This will be available for your review in Magnus before school begins.

Schedule Reminders for First Weeks of School

  • Lower and Middle School students will be dismissed early the first week of school. This will allow parents/caregivers to have meet and greets with teachers in the afternoon.
  • Late starts will begin on Wednesdays starting on September 15. Early morning drop-off will be offered every Wednesday beginning at 8:00 a.m.
  • The after-school program Pike Plus will run from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. on regular school days and from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. during Professional Development Days.

Changes for 2021-2022 School Year

We are happy to announce that we are able to welcome visitors and serve lunch - two aspects of Pike life that had been dormant during the crisis of 2020-21.

Visitor Policy: We are delighted to announce that we will allow visitors on campus this year. Please note that all visitors, regardless of their vaccination status, must wear a mask indoors at Pike. Visitors will also be required to complete a symptom screening. Masks are not required outdoors.

Lunch: Pike will be providing lunch daily to all students. Lunch will be held in our dining room, in classrooms or outdoors. More details will be forthcoming.

After-School Care — Pike Plus Program

Pike is pleased to announce that we will once again be offering an after-school program for families. Pike Plus will be held from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. after day except for holidays and school breaks.

This year, Pike Faculty & Staff will be offering Enrichment Programs for students. Our Enrichment Programs are a great way for students to explore and try new things. Each program will meet once a week from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
