Faculty & Staff Updates 2021
As we begin a new school year, we are excited to welcome our new community members and bid farewell to departing members. Below we’ve captured some of the personnel changes for the 2021-22 School Year.
Holly Gilmartin: Holly has joined the Middle School team as a 4th Grade anchor teacher. Holly was a 4th grade teacher at Pike before taking some time to raise her two daughters. She rejoined the Pike community three years ago as a substitute teacher and most recently served as a Lower School Off-Campus Learning teacher for Grades K-2 last school year. Holly has been collaborating with the 4th grade team this summer to prepare for a robust school year ahead, and we are thrilled to have her expertise on the team.
Sharon Libront: Sharon has joined Middle School team as a long-term substitute in the 4th Grade while we conduct a search for a new permanent anchor teacher. Sharon has been a part of the Pike community for many years, and is best known as our knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled Lower/Middle School Literacy Coach. Previously, Sharon served as a 4th grade teacher, and an OCL K-2 teacher at Pike. Sharon is skilled at creating a caring and safe classroom community and will set a strong foundation for this class while we conduct a search.
Adam Dalicandro: Adam has accepted a teaching position at a nearby public school for the 2021-2022 school year. Adam was a knowledgeable, collaborative, and integral member of the 4th grade team. We appreciate Adam’s contributions to our community while he was at Pike, and we wish him all the best in his new role.
Jeimy Ruiz: Jeimy has joined Pike as our new Lower and Middle School Spanish teacher. Jeimy is a native speaker who comes to Pike from the Oliver Partnership School in Lawrence and has also taught at the Cheverus Catholic School in Malden. She is excited to bring her love of the Spanish language and her passion for working with elementary-aged children to our community.
Margaret Szegvari: Margaret has taken on the role of Curriculum Curator for the 2021-2022 school year. We are so lucky to benefit from her expertise and vast knowledge of curriculum analysis and writing, as well as her depth of experience with teaching and learning at Pike. Margaret will be focusing on compiling, organizing, and more thoroughly detailing units of study across grades and subject areas. This will be an opportunity to build on the work that began in the 2019-2020 school year with a shift in scope to ensure we have a thorough, detailed, and up to date Program of Studies. This will be a great benefit to the future of Pike, and will support the new role of Director of Academics, the strategic planning process, and looking forward, accreditation.
Christine Eddis: Christine has accepted a position as a K-5 Literacy Specialist at Estabrook Elementary School, in Lexington, MA, closer to her home. While at Pike, Christine was an integral support to the 5th Grade team as the OCL teacher. We appreciate Christine’s contributions to our community and we wish her happiness and success in her new role. Christine can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Brenda Comerford: Brenda joined Pike in July as our Assistant to the Division Heads. Brenda most recently worked at Merrimack College as an administrative assistant and was known for having excellent organization and communication skills as well as a willingness to jump in and learn new skills.
Kathleen Kenahan: Kathleen joined Pike in July as Pike's new Executive Assistant to The Head of School. Kathleen has over fifteen years of experience as an Executive Assistant supporting world class organizations including Perkins School for the Blind.
Wendy McCarthy: Wendy has joined the Pike community as the Afternoon Front Desk Receptionist. Wendy has extensive experience in providing administrative support and previously worked at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin, Ireland. Wendy will also serve as a support to our newly launched after-school PikePlus program. Wendy has spent years volunteering in a school setting and her dream was to one day work in education.
Gary Henning: Gary started at Pike in 2012 and has been instrumental in supporting and expanding Pike’s use of the Veracross database. He was also Pike’s go to person in the Makerspace and in much of the school when it came to building, constructing, power tools, fixing things, and creative solutions to unique problems. In addition Gary coached the speech team, tennis, and helped with set building in the drama department.
Yadira Valdez: Yadira has accepted a position as Director of Student Programs for Leadership, Equity, and Inclusion, Residential Life at The Cambridge School of Weston. Yadira and her family are moving to Weston, MA. While at Pike, Yadira was an important member of the Office of External Affairs and served as the Afternoon Front Desk Receptionist. We are grateful for Yadira’s contributions to our community and we wish her happiness and success in her new role. Yadira can be reached at email@example.com.
Dhruti Ashara: Dhruti joined the Pike Community last year as a contract teacher for the Upper School. In addition to building relationships with students in the classroom, she also implemented and successfully ran Generation Green Club and taught Environmental Science. This year, Dhruti will take on the role of Program Coordinator for PikePlus as we bring back after school activities. Besides being a key member in overseeing programs, she will continue offering Generation Green Club to our Upper School students.
Sharon Duquet: Sharon has worked part-time at Pike for several years as a Recess & Lunch Supervisor and Pike Plus teacher. We are delighted that she is now working with us in a full-time capacity. She brings joy and laughter to Lower and Middle School students out on the playground during recess, at the lunch table, and after school during FLEX (now Pike Plus). Sharon will continue to wear many hats as she supports these duties, but we are excited to have her energy.
