Community Notes - January 8, 2021

Dear Pike families,

It has been an eventful, emotional week in our nation. I remain grateful to navigate this time with you, the Pike community. As we draw a close to our week of at-home learning, I would like to share with you some community updates as we embark into 2021 together.

DAILY RISK MITIGATION UPDATE
Upon your return to campus on Monday, January 11, there will be a special return from winter break questions in MyMedBot that you must complete before returning to campus along with the daily health screening. As you know, COVID-19 infection rates are very high. Please carefully answer all questions and for the health of our community, please take your symptoms seriously.

Please be courteous and come to a complete stop when showing your MyMedBot screen to faculty/staff members at drop-off.

CALENDAR UPDATES
In order to continue to preserve the health and wellness of our community, we will be adjusting our schedule to include two additional at-home learning periods.

  • All students (CBL & OCL) will engage in at-home learning on Wednesday, February 17, 18 & 19.
    • School will be closed in observance of Presidents' Day on Monday, February 15.
    • Classes are not in session on Tuesday, February 16 due to a planned Professional Development day.
    • On-site COVID-19 testing will be required for all CBL community members on Thursday, February 18.
    • Campus re-opens & CBL resumes on Monday, February 22.

We will follow a similar pattern after Spring Break.

  • All students (CBL & OCL) will engage in at-home learning from Tuesday, March 23 - Friday, March 26.
    • Families, please be at home by Sunday, March 21 to begin a quarantine period to ensure that when we reconvene on campus, the population is healthy.
    • On-site COVID-19 testing will be required for all CBL community members on Thursday, March 25.
    • Campus re-opens & CBL resumes on March 29.

PERSONNEL & HIRING UPDATE
As you know, this was to be Michael Eatman's final year at Pike as Director of Community Life. Over winter break, Michael informed our team that he and his family will not be finishing the academic year at Pike with us. We remain grateful for his passion, commitment and expertise that have advanced our community. I know you join me in wishing his family the best. We are developing a comprehensive plan to extend the work of the Office of Community Life for the remainder of the year and are eager to share our vision at an upcoming Virtual Town Hall.

We are in the midst of two exciting search processes for administrative positions, Head of Middle School/Director of Academics and Director of Equity and Justice. The Head of Middle School/Director of Academics will lead the Middle School and help facilitate congruence between mission, vision, and the academic program. Alongside Marybeth Heyd and Trisha Gordon, this person will lead conversations and implement structures focused on faculty recruitment and development, the student experience, and curricular alignment schoolwide. The Director of Equity and Justice will build upon Pike's DEI foundation and stretch us to design and realize our vision for an equitable and justice-driven school community. This is not to say our work with diversity and inclusion is over! There is always work to be done. While aspirational, this new title signals the work we hope to do and the school we hope to be thus attracting like-minded candidates.
