As the school year begins, Pike’s 8th and 9th graders embark on the early stages of the secondary school process, supported by a series of fall events designed to guide families and students through this exciting next step in their educational journey. These programs help families lay a strong foundation for what can be a complex but rewarding process of self-discovery and decision-making.
A Parent and Guardian Panel brought together current 8th and 9th grade parents and guardians to hear from parents and guardians of Pike alumni about their experiences navigating the secondary school process. Panelists shared valuable insights on topics such as finding the right school fit, balancing applications and academics, and supporting their children through transitions.

Students in Grades 8 and 9 also engaged in hands-on workshops focused on key components of the application process. Nastaran Hakimi of Boston University Academy led a session on essay writing, helping students reflect on their experiences and express their authentic voices. Meanwhile, Chris Webb of Avon Old Farms School, Emily Sullivan of Westminster School, Meg Grover of Millbrook School, and Sarah Quinn of Miss Porter’s School led an interview workshop, offering practical advice and opportunities for students to practice communicating with confidence and clarity.

These events are part of Pike’s intentional and individualized approach to the secondary school process, which provides families and students with resources, guidance, and personal support every step of the way.
We are deeply grateful to all of the educators, panelists, parents, and guardians who shared their time and expertise with our community.
