Secondary School Placement
Pike graduates excel in the academic programs of competitive secondary schools, markedly so in their first year. Pike graduates are comfortable building relationships with their teachers, actively participating in class discussions, thinking critically, reasoning quantitatively, and managing their time successfully. Pike graduates are independent learners who collaborate well in groups and advocate for themselves based on their learning goals.
Beginning in April of the Seventh Grade year, our Secondary School placement advisors support students and their families as they navigate the application process. In the spring of our students' Seventh Grade year, parents/guardians attend an introductory presentation to learn about the advisory program. Our advisors explain secondary school options, present statistics on area schools, and outline the application timeline.
In April, families have the unique opportunity to attend a question and answer panel of admission directors at some of the nation’s leading secondary schools. In tandem with this event information workshops are held for students to go over important aspects of this process such as interviews. To enhance their work with the Pike families they advise each year, Pike’s two secondary school advisors host admission personnel at Pike and visit many independent secondary schools throughout New England. In addition to the individual meetings advisors hold with parent/guardians and students, Pike hosts an annual Secondary School Fair every September. Admission representatives from nearly eighty schools attend this fair each year.
Our secondary school advising process maximizes each child’s chances of matriculating at a secondary school where he or she will flourish. Pike graduates have matriculated at more than 40 secondary schools. The following list details where our 2017 graduates are currently attending high school:
