Congratulations to eighth-grade student Jerry Shu, who earned a National Medal for his artwork as part of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards national competition. National Medalists represent less than one percent of the 2017 Scholastic Awards. This year, over 330,000 student works of art and writing were submitted with only 2,740 students awarded at the national level. Other celebrated authors and artists who have won this award include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, and Truman Capote.

Shu's award winning piece is titled "Taste" and was submitted to the category of Drawing and Illustration. His work will now be sent to New York City to be exhibited as part of the national exhibit with an awards reception held this upcoming June.

Please join us in congratulating Jerry Shu!
