Drama Teacher 2018

The Pike School is seeking an Upper School Drama Teacher Grades 6-9.

Specific responsibilities of the position include: teaching drama courses for grades 6-9, directing two performances: a self-scripted grade 8 play in the fall and a grade 9 production in the winter; writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; and collaboration with Arts colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions. The successful candidate will be excited about working with Upper School students, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, and have experience with all elements of theater productions. In particular, the candidate will have experience leading students through a playmaking project.

A Bachelor’s degree in Theater or Theater Education. A Master’s degree (or higher) is preferred, as is 3-5 years of experience teaching and directing drama in a school setting. This is a one year position with the possibility of it being renewed for more than a year.

Associate Director of Admission

The Pike School is seeking an Associate Director of Admission to assist in recruiting and enrolling a diverse pool of students for an independent elementary and middle school.

This position reports to the Director of External Affairs and works closely with one other Associate Director of Admission and Assistant Director of Communications.

Pike is seeking an individual who finds joy in daily interactions with children; is skilled at communicating with and engaging young children and adults; is able to manage events from conception to completion; is familiar with database management and able to input, access, and present very detailed information; and has excellent marketing skills and instincts.

This is a 12-month, full-time position offering a competitive salary and benefits package. Candidate should expect to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Share Pike’s Story with External Community

  • Build relationship with students and families interested in The Pike School
  • Lead admission tours and interviews and answer questions about Pike’s program, curriculum, students and teachers
  • Assess admission applications and participate in committees to determine students who are an appropriate match
  • Serve as a member of Pike’s Marketing Committee

2. Manage Admission Database

  • Maintain database files for applicants to ensure consistent formatting of all records
  • Design and export a wide range of admission reports and statistics
  • Research, develop, and maintain office best practices for our use of Veracross

3. Plan Admission Events

  • Coordinate all aspects of event planning and implementation for both recruitment and assessment events
  • Maintain calendar of events and related tasks to ensure timely communication and execution
  • Oversee events to meet budget expectations
  • Create and update necessary forms for all admission-related events (assessments, visits, fairs, etc.)

4. Provide Exceptional Administrative Support

  • Field phone calls and emails of interested families and education consultants
  • Schedule, maintain and disseminate weekly office visit schedule
  • Coordinate production and mailing of all admission and financial aid correspondence
  • Manage organizational details associated with Admission Office and volunteer meetings
  • Complete other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of External Affairs

Requisite Professional Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in admission, recruitment, or related field
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to be highly confidential in handling sensitive personal and institutional information
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Committed to cultural competence and able to work effectively with families and colleagues from many diverse backgrounds
  • Self-starter who will complete projects independently and collaborate within a team

Preferred Professional Skills and Experience

  • Experience working with parents and children ages 3-14
  • Proficient in Spanish and/or Mandarin
  • Knowledge of Veracross
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign

Full-Time Spanish Teacher

The Pike School is seeking a full-time Spanish teacher for grades 6-8 to begin September 2018. Candidates must possess a passion for teaching and have experience teaching adolescents. Native, or near native fluency required. In addition, candidate must demonstrate the ability to work well in collaborative environments and communicate effectively with students and parents.

Central to this position is a demonstrated track record of promoting and leading in multi-ethnic learning environments. We are seeking candidates with specific knowledge of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching and leadership practices with a dedication to working in a diverse community.

Bachelor's Degree required and a Master's preferred, knowledge of PLC practiced and integration of technology, specifically iPad, preferred.

Fourth Grade Teaching Position

The Pike School is seeking a Fourth Grade Teacher beginning the 2018-2019 school year.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the skill and desire to develop a positive rapport with students, colleagues and families and will be an effective communicator. She or he will teach language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. At least three years of elementary teaching experience, strong collaborative skills, and a BA are required. A Master’s Degree and knowledge of PLC practices are preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Upper School Learning Specialist

Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Learning Services, this full-time Learning Specialist will differentiate curriculum and instruction to meet student needs in 1-1, small group and classroom settings in grades 5 - 9. This person is committed to the mission and values of Pike School and to building and supporting a diverse and inclusive community. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills that will enable him/her to communicate effectively with students, parents and the faculty.

Reports to: Director of Learning Services

Job Description:

  • Provide direct division level student support under direction of Director of Learning
  • Services and Head of Upper School
  • Provide small group in-class and pull out support depending on needs
  • Provide 1- 1 student support during the school day and before and/or after school when
  • needed
  • Teach one section of 6th grade study skills course
  • Attend Learning Services Department Meetings once every cycle
  • Write progress reports for each learning services student once per term
  • Support teachers with classroom accommodations as directed by division head or
  • Director of Learning Services
  • Support PLC work
  • Meet with Director of Learning Services, Coordinator of Upper School Learning Services,
  • School Counselor, and Head of Upper School, as needed
  • Attend upper school team and division meetings for assigned division as needed
  • Committed to ongoing professional growth to maintain proficiency in current research

  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience preferred providing 1-1 or small group academic intervention
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with adults and students
  • Experience with students grades 5-9
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of PLC preferred
  • Knowledge of Math in Focus curriculum, algebra I and geometry preferred
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing testing recommendations
  • Experience or knowledge of supporting ELL learners

Substitute Teachers

Are you looking to be a part of an educational setting, working with children? We are an independent, PK–9, elementary day school seeking substitute teachers. Bachelor's degree and some experience teaching or working with elementary age students are strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a history of punctuality, responsibility and flexibility.

Substitutes could be asked to teach full or half days in regular or specialists' classrooms (indicate if preference). They are expected to provide instruction and implementation of lesson plans, manage the classroom, and ensure student learning.
