Minecraft Theme Park
Design your own theme park inside Minecraft! Using minecarts, powered rails, redstone, and more, students will build everything from roller coasters to bumper boats to concession stands to zoos! Will your coaster pass through underground caverns? Will your games be rigged in your favor? Students employ engineering, sequential logic, and spacial reasoning to answer these and other questions. The only limit to your theme park is your imagination! Pike Plus is provided at no additional charge on 9/9 and 11/25.

Art Adventures

Trash to Treasure

Chess Club I
Study chess with renowned chess player, coach, and International Master David Vigorito. Chess has tremendous benefits as a learning aid and helps students with concentration, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Theater Workshop
Theater Worshop is a new and exciting after school experience that exposes students to real musical theater principles and performance at an age-appropriate level, and sets students up for an enduring appreciation for the arts. Participants will take part in a variety of activities incorporating drama, art, and music - all of which promote confidence, expression, and collaboration through creative play! Students have fun while building imagination, learning to cooperate in group settings, and increasing self-esteem. This workshop will run for the fall and winter terms and will culminate in a showcase on Wednesday, March 5.

Programming with Scratch
Learn or improve at Scratch, a programming language developed at MIT that caught on worldwide. Tell stories and write computer games. For beginners and those who already know some Scratch. Lower School String Orchestra II
Lower School String Orchestra II (Grades 3 - 5) is an ensemble for students who have already been a part of Lower School Orchestra for at least one full year and/or have been enrolled in private lessons for at least a year. Trail Blazers
Do you enjoy being out in nature? Do you like to find interesting plants and creatures? Join us on Thursdays as we explore the Pike School trail. Naturalists will engage in various activities each week, including but not limited to trail maintenance, keeping a nature journal, making fairy houses, hiking, using magnifying glasses to study small things, observing changes throughout the season, identifying plants/trees, tracking animal prints in mud, measuring circumferences of tree trunks, using compasses and joyfully experiencing the power of nature and celebrating the beauty surrounding us. Older students will have leadership opportunities in planning and leading activities with younger children. All weather gear is recommended to ensure fun and comfort. Pike Plus is available at no charge on September, 5.

Latin Dance
This Latin American dance class will introduce a dance from two different countries. The students will have fun with friends while doing physical activity and learning a new culture. During this class the students will be introduced to the country culture, dance, music and history. This class will also introduce basic Spanish vocabulary and Spanish conversation. Rhythmic Gymnastics
Rhythmic gymnastics is an Olympic sport that combines the qualities of gymnastics and dance. NorthEast Rhythmics in Middleton is pleased to offer a  class a coed class to help participants  build  rhythmic gymnastic skills through structured activities  and obstacle courses, while learning how to use props  like ribbons, scarves, balls, and hoops. They will grow  their fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination,  flexibility, and strength, while listening to music and  having fun! Instructor: NorthEast Rhythmic’s Ralitsa Kalmukova is  a former Bulgarian gymnast who has more than 15  years of experience in teaching all levels of rhythmic  gymnastics.

MathCounts
The MathCounts Competition program for The Pike School will be offered after school on Mondays from 3:30 - 4:30 from September through March (Terms 1 and 2). The program is open to any student in grades 6 - 8. The MathCounts program consists of four levels of competition - school, chapter, state, and national. Each level of competition consists of 4 rounds - sprint, target, team, and countdown round. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about 3 hours to complete.

The after school MathCounts programs at Pike will meet weekly to prepare for these competitions. The School Competition will take place in December. From the school competition 12 students will be selected to represent Pike at the Chapter Competition in February. From the Chapter Competition the top placing team and top placing eight individuals (not already on a team) are selected to represent the Chapter at the State competition held in March. At the State Competition the top four students go on to represent Massachusetts at the National Competition in May. In the past, Pike has been represented at all levels of the competition.

Our Monday afternoons will be spent practicing for the competitions and learning strategies to be efficient in problem solving. The competitions cover a wide variety of topics in Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory, Data and Statistics, and Probability to name just a few. We will utilize past competitions and practice plans to help prepare our students for the MathCounts competition series. Students will have the opportunity to hone their skills through competitive games, practice problems, and simulated countdown rounds. APOS (The Art of Problem Solving) will also be used as an additional resource for practice of skills. Please note this program runs from September through March Break.

Students will have opportunities to work with guest artists and professional musicians and will have a variety of performance opportunities, both in school and afterschool. Note: Upper School Orchestra is a full year program, and students who register are expected to remain throughout the year and participate in all scheduled performances.

Gamelan Sleeping Fox (full year)
Gamelan Sleeping Fox (Grades 3 - 9) is an ensemble for students interested in learning how to play traditional Balinese music from Bali, Indonesia. In this group, your child will learn how to play different instruments in a Balinese gamelan orchestra, as well as learn about Balinese culture. Please be aware that space in this ensemble is necessarily limited to 25 students due to the number of instruments available for students to play. All students are welcome to join regardless of prior musical experience or ability.

Note: Gamelan Sleeping Fox is a full year program and students who register are expected to remain throughout the year and participate in all scheduled performances.
